Performance & XR Virtual Reality Symposium 2022
PXR Conference, hosted by Single Thread and Electric Company Theatre, is a series of interactive presentations and discussions by Canadian artists and digital content creators on how they are using virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality (collectively known as XR) in the creation of live performance. We offer an experience that takes advantage of the XR medium. Wherever possible we have chosen to design the conference around the idea of ‘corridor conversation’- running into old friends and making new ones. This year’s conference offers four artistic streams: PXR Experience, PXR Arcade, PXR Engage and PXR Laboratory.
PXR EXPERIENCE includes three performance pieces, VR Holographic Concert, Maamawi - Together Through Fire, and You Should Have Stayed Home, and will be presented leading up to and during the conference from November 5-18. PXR ARCADE is dedicated to stand-alone, provocative XR installations and games, PXR ENGAGE presentation series features artists and technologists presenting their creative vision for live XR productions, and our PXR LABORATORY stream that will focus on the technical aspects of developing a live XR performance, will all be presented from November 12-19.
PXR is committed to creating space for IBPOC artists through presentation and fellowship opportunities, as well as representation in the leadership of the conference. For a third year in a row, we are proudly offering an IBPOC (Indigenous, Black, People of Colour) Fellowship opportunity, supported by Debbie Deer Productions,Creative Lab North, Flipside XR and York University, to eight talented IBPOC artists interested in furthering their XR experience. This initiative supports them with a free VR Headset, access to the PXR Conference, a cash award of $1000 CAD, and mentorship in XR creation.
