Announcing The Magic Hour – running from August 3-22, 2021 at Presentation House Theatre!

“The Magic Hour came into being from an incredible collaboration between many artists and producing partners during a time when making live performing arts was under lockdown.  We wanted to envision a narrative project for people to participate in safely while still being live.  So the conceptual form of this show came to life within that limitation to offer a live theatre art gift. And Kendra and I also wanted to capture and embody some of the valuable collective reflection that the Covid 19 pandemic had inspired in relation to ourselves, to each other, our communities and the earth.

The project’s extensive resource sharing and innovation to make something possible in a time of absence make me hopeful for our resourceful collective problem-solving in times to come as culture and climate concerns continue moving at breakneck speed and we all move into the unknown.   Thank you for joining us. We are so happy you are here.

Sun Sun Sun…..”
– Kim Collier, Director of The Magic Hour

The Magic Hour is a solo, immersive, walk-through, theatrical experience; a light-charged story of finding beauty in small moments and possibility within domestic isolation. Created and Conceived by Kim Collier, and written by Kendra Fanconi – let yourself be enveloped by art and story in a timed-entry, limited run at Presentation House Theatre.

Guided by rich audio, video, lighting, and stagecraft, The Magic Hour invites audiences on an individual, room-by-room exploration of familiar, yet transformed spaces, blending art, design, music, and text in a multi-layer mixed-media feast for the senses.

The destination of this curious and magical journey is a reflection on an unprecedented year – and a step forward into a brave new world.Critics Rave about The Magic Hour – and it’s been extended!

The Magic Hour premiered on August 3 to a SOLD-OUT audience on its opening day – and it has been extended until September 4! Such wonderful news.  We have been met by wonderful audiences and responses raging from different demographics, and your vivacious energy carried us through the end of a successful first week. Here’s what some critics have said about the opening week of the show:

“No matter how big your problems may seem, The Magic Hour takes the wide view, reminding just how marvellously puny we all are within the universe and how, just as a weed pushes through the cracks of a sidewalk, life always finds a way.” – Stir Vancouver

“When I am overwhelmed with feeling, my body sort of convulses — like I’m getting kicked in the heart. It’s a form of release, an opening. That happened again and again while I was experiencing The Magic Hour and I’m grateful for it.” – Colin Thomas

“If there is a star of this show it clearly is the design team: the attention to detail is remarkable, highly creative and the lighting/ lighting effects by Innovative Lighting are fantastic.” – Jo Ledingham

We want to thank you all so much for going along this journey with us, it’s been unprecedented, messy, and surprisingly fruitful. Your support and loyalty have allowed us to create work that you could look forward to seeing, and boy, did it pay off.
